Top Ten Moving Tips by Orange County Movers
0Moving can be an incredibly difficult process. Most people don’t even know where to start. Luckily Orange County Movers is here to help by providing you with 10 helpful packing and moving tips to alleviate some of the stress that comes with moving.
1.Make a schedule. – Create a schedule that details your exact moving date. Map out what rooms are the most important and start packing up those rooms sooner than later. You want to make sure that the most important things have priority so you can get it done and continuously check back on them as time goes on. Decide on a date when to call the moving company, when you need to have purchased all of your supplies, and when you plan on starting. It’s important to be organized and on a schedule so nothing goes unnoticed.
2.Make an essentials list. – What are the most important things that absolutely need to be moved? Make sure you pack those first (unless they are still being used of course) before all of the little stuff. Prioritizing is important because it helps you remember what you need to do first and covers all of your major bases.
3.Rally your friends and family. – Packing is not an easy task, especially when you are packing up your entire family. Call on friends and family to help you get everything done faster. Fill them in on your plan and get to work! Everything will go by quickly.
4.Get your moving supplies early. – Make sure you have plenty of boxes, packing tape, markers for labeling, and lots and lots of packing paper and bubble wrap. You do not want to go out shopping for boxes last minute – most shipping stores sell boxes for much more than they are worth. Give yourself enough time to shop around so you can find affordable boxes that won’t put a strain on your wallet.
5.Label your boxes. – Nothing is more frustrating than trying to find your favorite shirt and having to open a million boxes because you don’t know where you put it. Label every box according to room or person and try to be as detailed as possible. That way it helps you and the movers know where to put everything and you won’t be left scrambling to find you personal items.
6.Let the experts deal with the heavy and delicate stuff. – Everyone thinks that you are capable of handling delicate items or heavy furniture by themselves but sometimes it can cause more harm than good. Damage feels can sometime outweigh the moving fees. Movers are experienced in moving heavy furniture, as they have to do it almost every day. Let them handle it so you won’t be breaking your back trying to lift a couch into a moving truck.
7.Be prepared. – Something is bound to go wrong during your move, so get ready. Get some sleep and make sure you have energy because moving can take a lot out of you!
8.Be picky. – Go through all of your belongings before you start packing. Be very picky about the things that you decide to take with you and what to leave behind. Why go through all of the hassle of packing things that you are ultimately going to get rid of later?
9.Donate your unwanted items. – Plan to donate any unwanted books, clothing, electronics, or furniture. There is someone out there who needs your unwanted items, so don’t worry about them going to waste. Don’t let your left behind belongings go into the garbage can – give it to someone in need.
10.Book a moving service EARLY. – Moving services are usually accommodating to last minute moves, but for efficiency’s sake, book a moving service at least 2 weeks in advance if not earlier. That way the movers are ready for you and you are ready for them and that is helpful for everyone.

Moving to San Juan Capistrano? If so, You’re in for a Historical treat.
0California History is Alive and Well in Orange County
A lot of what California has to offer may seem new, but the state also has a long colonial history, with settlements dating back to before the Revolutionary War. Some of the most striking symbols of that past can be found in the 21 missions that dot the state, including Orange County’s own Mission San Juan Capistrano. Now, the Orange County Register reports, a $3.3 million project is underway to renovate the historic mission, making it friendlier to visitors, and preserving it for the future.
Founded in 1776, the Mission was the seventh established in New Spain under the auspices of the Franciscans and the King of Spain. Set up to be a self-sufficient community and colonial outpost, each mission was more or less a day’s journey from the last. Moving northward along “El Camino Real” or “The Royal Road,” the 21 missions stretch from Baja California all the way up to the Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma, California. While their history is complicated—many lives were lost in conflicts between Native Americans and Spanish settlers—the Missions remain an important link to how California became the rich, multicultural state it is today.
Along with being the only Mission in Orange County, the Mission San Juan Capistrano is significant in another way: its Serra Chapel is one of the last structures still standing where Father Junípero Serra is known to have prayed. A Franciscan priest, Father Serra oversaw the founding of many of the Missions. Much later, in 1988, he was named a saint by Pope John Paul II, and to this day, roads and landmarks in many California cities bear Serra’s name.
Today, the Mission hosts as many as 300,000 visitors a year. The city of San Juan Capistrano hopes that the new renovation project will help better integrate the historic landmark with its lovely downtown. Every effort has been made to integrate new spaces built as part of the renovation, like the gift shop, with the historical structures.
The Mission is always worth a visit. Whether to step inside the chapel or to witness the famous “miracle” of the swallows return on March 19th, there is always something to see. All in all, if you’re considering a move to Orange County, the Mission San Juan Capistrano is one of many pleasant surprises. Call Orange County Movers to make sure your move is another one!

0Thai Food Selections are Great in Orange County
That is one of the most common questions that people will inevitably encounter at some point throughout their day. Well, one of the great things about moving to Orange County is that the culinary opportunities that are available seem to be unlimited. Our area boasts a plethora of restaurants and choices to suit any and every taste and palate. But for today, our focus will be on: exotic and delicious Thai food.
According to one reference work, each Thai dish or overall meal will consist of a balance of 3- 4 fundamental taste sensations: sour, sweet, salty, and bitter. Placing emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components, today’s Thai food has resulted from a blending of several different Asian traditions. Known for its passionate use of fresh herbs and spices (as opposed to dried), Thai food delivers an unforgettable kick!
Especially since the 1960’s, Thai cuisine has rapidly grown in popularity all around the world. For example, just in the city of London alone, the number of Thai restaurants rose from 4 in the 1970’s to between two and three hundred over the course of less than 25 years. Luckily, no matter where you might be on the globe, good Thai food is usually within reach and very accessible.
And of course, such is definitely the case here in Orange County. One recommendation that is worth a try is Yelp’s highest rated Thai restaurant, MaDee Thai Kitchen. Located in Costa Mesa at 401 E 17th street, users of Yelp gave this establishment rave reviews. For great food at an affordable price, be sure and check it out, the next time you ask yourself, “What’s for dinner?”
Orange County Loves Oranges
0We’ve heard the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Well, what about oranges? Where’s their special slogan? Shouldn’t oranges also have a spot in the limelight? (Citrus pun intended)
Many different health benefits come from eating oranges since they are packed with vitamins and nutrients. Of course, the stand-out on this one that most people are aware of, is Vitamin C. This improves the immune system because Vitamin C actually stimulates the production of white cells in our body. High contents of Vitamin C have also been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.
Another wonderful thing about oranges is that they are rich in fibers, which aid in digestion and also reduce cholesterol levels. Here are just a few other health advantages that oranges boast:
- Magnesium and a flavonoid called hesperidin help regulate high blood pressure
- Calcium for healthy teeth and bones
- Antioxidants, which have an anti-aging effect, help protect the skin from free-radicals and cell damage
- Iron and Vitamin B6 help facilitate the production of red cells in the blood, which carry oxygen from lungs to cells.
Once upon a time, Orange County saw thousands of acres of orange groves. Even though less than one hundred acres remain today, a good orange can still easily be found at your local grocery store chain, or one of many farmer’s markets in the area.
One such local grower, popular with the natives, is Orange County Produce. Taken from their website, they “are working hard to make sure that O.C. residents have access to dependable and delicious, local grown produce.” Practicing both conventional and certified organic farming, be sure and keep an eye out for the Orange County Harvest label.
When you host your next soiree, try out this tasty recipe. (Don’t worry, it’s an easy one. We’re talking entry-level, zero difficulty). Your guests will love it. They may even go bananas! Ok— now THAT’S a whole other blog.
